Universal Robots receives ‘Best Design’ award

170601_UniversalRobotsIn a world where millions of products and designs are launched each year, the prestigious, international A’Design Award sets out to focus attention on the best. The scheme calls on designers, innovators and manufacturers to submit their work in a wide range of categories that extend from consumer products, fashion and building design to breakthroughs in medical devices and robotics. And it is in the category Engineering & Technical Design, that Universal Robots has been confirmed as the winner.

Universal Robots was the brainchild of Esben Østergaard, an innovator who wanted to create a light robot that was easy to install and program but suitable for use across all industries. At the time heavy, expensive and unwieldy robots dominated the market and there was a clear opportunity for a more user-friendly option that would provide important benefits; easy programming, flexible deployment, fast set-up; collaborative and safe operation and fast payback.

The result is a range of six-axis robotic arms whose flexibility and scope of application is growing daily, and clearly their design has made its mark with the A’Design Award judging panel. As well as receiving its winner’s trophy, Universal Robots will join forces with the winners of all the other categories at an exhibition in Como, Italy to celebrate excellence in design.
