Yaskawa servo packaging suits packaging robots

171205_YaskawaWhen a leading automated packing and packaging machine manufacturer was searching for a compact, yet high-precision servo drive package, it found the ideal solution from Yaskawa. For its new production line, Ixapack Global based in Western France selected the current dual-axis modules of the Sigma-7 Servo Systems from Yaskawa.

For over 40 years Ixapack Global has established a reputation for the design and manufacture of automated packing and package machines, ranging from complete packaging lines for the most varied applications to inspection systems.

A recent development is for two new products which automate the cartoning process. These consist of delta robots and multi-articulated manipulators which combine for product gripping and carton folding operations. Up to five robots can be controlled by one controller which synchronises the movements of the different robots as well as the feed systems and this challenging level of control required servo drives which provide the highest speed and precision.

Depending on the system configuration, either 78 or 108 servo axes are installed in the respective machines and therefore Ixapack Global was looking for a high performance and above all, compact servo drive solution that would require minimal space in the switching cabinet. The choice of Sigma-7W dual-axis modules from Yaskawa which control the two motors with a single amplifier reduces both the amount of space taken up in the switching cabinet and machine even further, and saves energy.

The role of new Sigma-7 Servos and the contribution they are making to the success of the new Ixapack Global automated carton machines underlines their key features and benefits. These are; consistently simple and fast commissioning, maximum machine throughput with optimum precision, along with outstanding operational reliability in the most compact package.
