SensoPart introduces the latest software update for its VISOR series, enhancing the VISOR vision sensors with expanded result processing functions, including new operators for robotics applications.

The “Contour Check” detector allows for the precise comparison of object contours with a previously taught reference contour, ensuring fast and reliable error detection. This significantly contributes to improving production quality and reducing waste. The detector is applicable across a wide range of industrial applications – from plastics processing and metalworking to assembly technology.

The new “Individual Overlays” function enables VISOR users to display relevant information and results directly in the image. For instance, it allows for colouring based on the result, which can be easily set up with just a few clicks. The immediate visualisation of all essential data facilitates system maintenance and promotes rapid error detection and correction. Additionally, the function enhances transparency in the production process, leading to greater overall acceptance.

The release also includes expanded result processing functions, including new operators for robotics applications and new measurement functions. These new functions make it easier to solve measurement tasks precisely and simply with the VISOR. It is now possible to accurately assign lines to the objects captured in the image and calculate distances to lines as well as intersections between the detected lines.

Another highlight is the newly introduced device password protection, meeting the security requirements of an increasingly connected production environment. This protection mechanism ensures that only authorized users have access to device settings, thus protecting against unwanted access and cyber threats.

The software upgrade 2.10 is now available for download for both existing and new users of the VISOR series.

The VISOR Robotic vision sensor from Sensopart acts as the ‘eye’ of the robot and is used worldwide in image-guided robotics applications. The most recent development provides problem-free connection between the vision sensor and a Yaskawa robot.

The VISOR Robotic is part of the extensive VISOR vision sensor family. With its five fast and robust detection methods for locating components, it offers a solution for a wide range of automation tasks. With the integrated Target Mark 3D technology, 3D object poses are determined in the shortest possible time. Thanks to the fully automated and flexible calibration methods, both stationary and mounting on the robot arm are possible.

In addition to its robotics functions, the VISOR Robotic offers all inspection, measurement and identification functions of the VISOR framework. Packed in a robust, compact housing, the vision sensor can record images up to 5 megapixels. The results are evaluated directly in the camera, there is no need for an additional PC.

For a problem-free connection between the vision sensor and as Yaskawa robot, the Yaskawa App is a software plugin (a so-called ‘MotoPlus App’) that provides a seamless interface between the two.

It covers all the necessary functions for integrating the VISOR and has QuickStart job sets for the VISOR software SensoConfig and example robot programs for plug-and-play integration. The VISOR Robotic Yaskawa App enables quick integration and low development effort, resulting in a higher return on investment (ROI).

Various functions are available with the app version 5.0.3:

Trigger3D function with option for ‘camera on robot arm’ – This transfers the current position of the robot to the VISOR. This makes it possible to solve applications in which different image recording positions are approached.

Example program ‘Pick3D’ for a quick and easy introduction to using the powerful 3D result offset function – Teach the desired gripping point and simply move the result point of the VISOR® into a 3D gripping point of the robot.

Thanks to the app, all of these functions can be easily integrated into the robot program.

The Yaskawa software package is available for users to download free of charge and is compatible with the Yaskawa YRC 1000 micro, Yaskawa YRC 1000 and Yaskawa DX 200 robot systems.

Sensopart says its new VISOR UV vision sensor will open up new application possibilities in robotic automation. The sensor’s integrated UV illumination can evaluate markings, inscriptions and codes that are invisible to the human eye.

Inks, lacquers, chalks and adhesives enriched with luminescent substances – so-called luminophores – are invisible to the human eye, only lighting up when irradiated with ultraviolet light, in different colours depending on the type of substance used. This phenomenon can be used in automation applications to evaluate hidden markings on objects that are invisible to the naked eye. Examples include markings after quality tests have been passed, seals on screws with luminescent paint, invisible adhesive beads, or data matrix codes for product identification.

Sensopart claims the VISOR UV is the only vision sensor with integrated UV illumination on the market that also offers very comprehensive image processing functions. For the evaluation of the luminescent markings, the Sensopart user has the same extensive detection tools at their disposal as the classic illumination variants (white, red, infrared) of the VISOR Allround series. This opens up a wide range of application possibilities.

The UV version of the VISOR is available with two different resolutions (V20: 1440 x 1080 pixels; V50: 2560 x 1936 pixels) and optionally with a monochrome or colour chip. The colour chip offers the additional option of filtering images according to colour channels in order to maximise the contrast between the marker and the background and thus the detection reliability. This is done simply by creating a setting in the sensor configuration; separate colour filters are no longer required, and application costs are saved.

New functions for the Code Reader and a revamped monitoring software with enhanced statistical functions are among the additional features SensoPart’s VISOR vision sensors received from an extensive annual software upgrade.

“Our users are particularly impressed by the new design of SensoWeb,” says Marcus Koslik, product manager for vision at SensoPart. This software, which is pre-installed on the sensor, makes it possible to easily monitor running sensors in a standard browser on any end device, such as a laptop, tablet or smartphone. The new design has improved user navigation and the display mode is variable – it can be adapted to small and large screen diagonals. Furthermore, the new SensoWeb software offers enhanced statistical functions. Limited formerly to only a good/bad overall result, it is in future now also possible to output aggregated individual results for each detector in the form of histograms or percentage values.

The ‘Result Processing’ detector that was introduced with the last software release now also comes with additional evaluation options. While it was previously only possible to analyse the results of a job run, global statistical variables can presently be used to include the results of earlier versions in the evaluation. This enables the identification of changes or trends. In addition, data can be exchanged between different jobs. As such complex analyses are now possible directly in the sensor, PLC programming work is significantly reduced in many applications.

While the new monitoring software has been introduced with all VISOR variants (VISOR Object, VISOR Robotic, VISOR Code Reader and VISOR Allround), the current release also enhances the functionality of the VISOR Code Reader. Two important code families (Aztec, micro QR) have been added, as well as further quality parameters (in accordance with ISO/IEC TR 29158 and SEMI T10-0701). This ensures that the Code Reader is able to assess all 1D and 2D codes commonly used in industrial applications. The evaluation of quality parameters also guarantees a reliable reading process, as deviations in code quality are detected at an early stage.

SensoPart has expanded its subminiature sensor series. The range now offers LED sensors, in addition to laser sensors, including a proximity switch with adjustable background suppression and a blue light version for strongly light-absorbing objects.

The LED proximity switch FT 10-RH is a special highlight amongst the new sensors: it offers adjustable background suppression which means it can be adjusted to different objects and applications without modifications. Its maximum scanning range of 70 mm is unique for this sensor size. Fixed focus proximity switches – also equipped with background suppression – are also available with scanning ranges of 15mm, 30 mm or 50 mm.

Background suppression in F 10 sensors from SensoPart is based on distance measurement using an ASIC array. This functional principle enables highly-accurate spatial resolution so that objects can be reliably distinguished in front of light backgrounds or reflective machine parts – whatever the colour and surface finish.

Measuring just 21.1 x 14.6 x 8 mm3 and weighing only 3 g, the tiny proximity switches can be mounted directly on a robotic gripper and are therefore ideal for pick-and-place applications. They are perfect for space-saving installation in handling systems, assembly robotics and highly-integrated machines or as a low-cost alternative to fibre-optic systems.

In addition to the aforementioned proximity switch with red transmitter LED, SensoPart also offers a blue light version (fixed focus 30 mm). The F 10 blue light has been specially developed for detection of strongly light-absorbing objects such as solar cells. Another new member of the F 10 series is the LED retro-reflective light barrier FR 10-R with a high operating range (up to 1.6 m) and teach-in function.

Thanks to these new additions, users of SensoPart’s subminiature F 10 series can now cover numerous applications with just one model. Not only are different functional principles available (proximity switches with adjustable background suppression, fixed focus proximity switches with background suppression, through-beams and retro-reflective light barriers), but there is also a choice of several light sources (laser, red light LED, blue light LED).
