Omron highlights benefits of automated feeding

230905_OmronOmron’s Stuart Coulton will be discussing the benefits of automated feeding during his presentation at MachineBuilding.Live. The workshop, titled ‘Increasing Productivity by Minimising Changeover Times’, is set to cover a wide range of topics including automated feeding.

Coulton, UK and Ireland marketing manager at Omron, said: “Automated feeding plays a crucial role in speeding up production, reducing waste and simplifying monitoring, but many businesses are missing out on the advantages.” These advantages include:

Consistent parts delivery: Automation ensures parts are consistently fed into machinery at the right intervals and orientations, minimising the need for manual adjustments or interventions and therefore resulting in fewer stoppages and quicker changeovers.

Elimination of manual tasks: Manual loading of parts can be time-consuming, especially if it requires skilled labour. Automation bypasses this by directly feeding parts, reducing both time and potential human error.

Pre-emptive material preparation: While the machine is operating on one batch, the automated system can be ready with the next set of materials or parts, ensuring an immediate switch when the current run completes.

Minimised wastage: Accurate and precise feeding reduces the chances of mistakes and wastage, ensuring that product changeovers are not delayed due to material shortages or rework needs.

Faster variation response: Delivery of smaller batches of multiple packaging formats often enables a seamless transition between low-medium variability SKUs.

Continuous monitoring of consumable availability: Integration of feeding system into supervisory level data systems enables precise monitoring of consumables and triggers action at pre-set levels.
