Robotic innovations at the Hannover Messe

150415_EpsonThe Robotics Update team were at the Hannover Messe this April, looking at the latest innovations and talking to the various robot suppliers, who were out in force. Over the next seven pages, we’ll present the most interesting and exciting of those innovations, and highlight the latest news from the key players.

For a quick snapshot, these were some of our Hannover Messe report highlights, with key product news from Igus, Mitsubishi, ABB, Delta, Metralabs, Universal Robots, Kuka, Epson and Kawasaki.

For anyone looking for collaborative robots at an attractive price, Igus‘ Robolink D robot comes in at just €1500. This new generation of robots uses directly driven joints. Igus was also displaying its new lightweight, economic Triflex retraction system – Triflex RSE.

Mitsubishi Electric and its partners were focused on human-robot cooperation, and how it fits into an Industry 4.0 environment. It also introduced a new SCARA robot, and showed live demonstrations to show the benefits in key applications such as the pharmaceutical industry.

There was a massive buzz around the ABB Robotics stand at the Hannover Fair, where the company was highlighting its YuMi collaborative robot. The company also confirmed pricing for YuMi and announced its first orders for this fully collaborative, dual-arm robot.

Automation giant Delta presented a SCARA Robot Solution that integrates the new DRS40L SCARA robot wih the ASDA-MS series robot controller. The former offers an arm length of 400mm, a load capacity of 3kg and a sensorless compliance, while the latter boasts built-in servo drive technology.

150415_MetralabsIf a mobile robot is of interest, Metralabs was showing a Schunk modular robotic arm attached to a Metra Scitos G5 mobile base, providing the ability to transport objects from one location to another. The mobile robot is capable of precise and delicate transportation tasks.

A highlight of the Universal Robots stand was the new UR3 table-top robot. With a payload capacity of 6.6 lbs, reach of 19.7in and 360° rotation on all wrist joints, the UR3 is said to be ideal for applications such as soldering, gluing, screwing, painting, pick and place, operating hand tools, laboratory work and fume hood tasks.

Read on for full reports from the show about Igus, Mitsubishi, ABB, Delta, Metralabs, Universal Robots, Kuka, Epson and Kawasaki.
