Scorpion Vision brings 3D Stinger Camera to PPMA

3D Stinger CameraIndustrial robots can operate with pin-point, “mammalian” vision, with the innovative 3D Stinger Camera, which Scorpion Vision featured at the PPMA Show at the NEC Birmingham, 30 September to 1 October 2015. Scorpion Vision gave visitors the chance to see this innovative 3D Stinger Camera at work, with live demonstrations of the camera conducting real-time measurements of food products.

Using technology developed by Tordivel AS of Oslo, Scorpion Vision’s 3D Stinger Camera enables production-line robots to see with almost human-like vision. With the 3D Stinger Camera, robots can distinguish the exact height, depth and sizes of products on a manufacturing line. The 3D Stinger Camera sends information to the robot to adjust where the picking arm goes accordingly.

Unlike other 3D vision systems on the market, the 3D Stinger Camera also uses ground-breaking technology to process images in “real-time”. The 3D Stinger Camera can do this because the camera is not required to scan whole areas at a time to detect products moving along the production line. This means that with the 3D Stinger Camera, the total cycle time is only dictated by how fast the robot can pick.

Thanks to the innovative the system’s real-time capabilities, the 3D Stinger Camera is also able to instantly detect if something moves into the field of view. Then the 3D Stinger Camera sends new picking coordinates to the robot, avoiding any unexpected malfunctions due to foreign items in the robot’s path.

Paul Wilson of Scorpion Vision says: “We would like to invite visitors at the PPMA Show to stop by our stand and take the opportunity to see our truly innovative 3D Stinger Camera at work. With our live demonstrations we hope that visitors will be able to see how the 3D Stinger Camera can be effective in the real world. The real-time capabilities of the 3D Stinger Camera are what makes this camera stand out from its competitors and our demonstration aims to make this clear.”

He continues: “Scorpion Vision’s 3D Stinger Camera is said to be ideal for use in all production lines; the 3D Stinger Camera has been used to pick and package sausages of different sizes for a client within the food industry but has also been used to sort shards of metal for a heavy industry client. Truly versatile, if you have a production line which needs to accurately pick and process items of different sizes, the 3D Stinger Camera is for you.”

Scorpion Vision will be exhibiting on stand G34 at the PPMA Show demonstrating their innovative 3D Stinger Camera along with a selection of its other leading products.
